When the petunias finally faded in the front garden pots, I added white vincas, and they have been tolerating the heat of the summer sun so well.
Annual vinca (Catharanthus roseus) is a tropical perennial that is grown as an annual in most regions. It has flowers and foliage that resemble those of impatiens, but rather than being a shade lover, annual vinca is a perfect choice for sunny locations. Also known as Madagascar periwinkle, these aren't the newest or flashiest annual flowers on the gardening scene, but recent cultivar developments warrant a closer examination of this common bedding plant. Horticulturists have been hard at work cultivating new colors in plants with showy flowers.

ReplyDeleteI love vinca, Ron, and they will reseed themselves. You may find them growing next season, either in the pots or on the nearby ground. :) Your containers are beautiful. I always wanted to plant caladium but my garden was full sun.
ReplyDeleteI used vinca for the first time in pots this year, and it is doing so well! It's the one flower that the deer don't eat. Next year, I'm putting it in my beds. Do your caladium do well in the sun? Mine like the part sun/shade here in NJ.

ReplyDeleteOh so pretty! I always plant vincas but this year we had so much rain all the way through June so they didn't thrive. Can't complain about the rain though!
