The Uptown Acorn Cottage {To Do}

Thanks for all the positive comments on my exciting announcement post from yesterday. It is nice to know that there are so many supporters out there in blog land.

By the way, J and I are not downsizing per se as we wanted a more manageable home. The home we are in now is way too large for us. The upkeep and the electric bills alone are staggering, and it is in need of major updates beyond our pocketbooks. It is high time after ten great years to move on to a more manageable home. J and I are not DIYers. We pay for everything! If only our dads were around to offer some free labor.... LOL!

Here is just a checklist I created for the outside:

Jena Street: To Do List
__X_ Closing May 11
___ Clear front yard of all trees and bushes __________________________
___ Clear backyard of 2 sago palms _________________________________
___ Remove siding _________________________________________________
___ Paint Outside façade ___________________________________________
Colors: Benjamin Moore Swiss CoffeeOC-45 Body
          Iceberg 2122-50 Shutters
___ Add copper awning above sunroom windows _____________________
___ Add new glass “screen” door ____________________________________
___ Replace and add floor-to-ceiling window on front porch ___________
___ Add shutters to front porch window _____________________________
___ Add gas light to front post ______________________________________
___ Add gas light post to front yard _________________________________
___ Add sugar kettle to front yard __________________________________
___ Add vent to front façade ________________________________________
___ Add cupola/weather vane to roof ________________________________

I am certain that there will be many more things added to this list on the outside.

Checklist, y'all!

  1. This is going to be so great to follow along with. I think this house is still a good size but much more manageable. I must admit to snooping on Zillow to see photos of the inside. So excited!

  7. Good morning, Ron! I can't wait to following this renovation--I know it will be magazine-worthy! My only question is where are you going to store all of your decorations?!! ;) Have a great day! xoxo

  8. Ron,
Looking forward to seeing how you and J transform this sleeping beauty! While your current home is beautiful, it becomes a question as we get older how much house we want to maintain and the cost it requires to do it especially when its a large and older home such as yours. As you get older, you wont miss all those steps either!!

  9. Oh goody! I love watching (other people's) renovations! Too true, that being a slave to a house gets old after so many years. Plus there are other things you want to do with your spare change than have to constantly spend it on a house. May 11 will be your new lucky day as it was ours -- 11 years ago when we downsized from a White Elephant that sucked up all our time and money. I am now ready, although the husband is not, to think of moving to a great condo someplace wonderful, where I don't have to do much of anything unless I feel like it!

Looking forward to vicariously sharing your journey.
