Opinion Requested {Bevolo Gas Lanterns}

I shared with you our shopping excursion to Bevolo in the French Quarter to select a gas lantern for the front post of the Acorn Cottage. Today, I received two choices from the designer who helped us narrow our many ideas. Both are the French Quarter lanterns 18" that we love. The differences lie in the bracket choices.

I am requesting your help. The rendering of the house is below. The lantern will go on the outside of the front porch post closest to the front door. It will be very visible from the road.

Our intent is to create some Southern charm and a gas light is a great place to begin.

Option A: 18" French Quarter Gooseneck bracket

Option B: 18" French Quarter 1/2 Rodin

  1. Hands down, B!!!! Traditional, and very Southern. I personally like when a lantern hangs from a hook/bracket.

  3. Hi Ron! Looks like I'm in the minority, but I love the curvy lines of choice A. I think it compliments the curved metal roof on the window. Both are beautiful though! Looking forward to all the wonderful changes you are making. Jane

  4. Ron , option B for sure. Love the French look of it. It seems to flow beautifully with the look of New Orleans. We visited that very same shop in the French Quarter. Can’t wait to see your beautiful cottage. Xo

  6. Gotta be B....hugs the wall closer and this is a cottage!

  7. They both look good. As an engineer, I prefer the second because the lantern is supported more directly. I'd worry that the first one might start pulling away from the wall over time, especially if there is a lot of wind in your area.

  8. they are both beautiful, but i like the first option best. it is "cleaner" and therefore a little more sophisticated. my main reason though has more to do with the height and profile of the house, which is low. something about the curved arm reaching "up" draws my eye up. gives the whole facade a "lift." the hanging one feels slightly "heavy" for the profile of the cottage.and points "down"which for me accents the low profile, rather than providing contrast. tough decision ! both are lovely!

  11. If you were using multiple lights across the facade, I would say to use the more simple A (since the impact would be coming from the fixtures themselves), but since you are using a single lamp, I would definitely use the more elegant & singularly impactful option B. Just love it!

  12. I like them both but it seems like B will fit with the style of the home best.

  13. Gooseneck. The Rodin seems a touch too formal for your beautiful cottage.

  15. Love them both but B is my fave. I see above you ordered those. Great choice you are going to smile when you see them on the cute cottage. This is so much fun Ron to see what you do with this beautiful cottage. It is going to be a stunner. The magazines will be hammering you to post on this beautiful cottage you create. Keep us posted on all you do. I am loving all your choices. So excited for you.
