I tend to spend the time from the beginning of school through Labor Day in a funk. This year, the funk is even worse because my two "besties" on our faculty have moved on, one has just had a third child and is staying home and the other accepted a new position as an Admissions Director at another school. I am so sad not being able to see these ladies on a daily basis. I muddle through because I am professional, but it does not feel the same. I have lost four great friends in the past two years.
I hope I get out of this "back to school" funk really soon.
Uptown "FUNK", y'all!
I am a former teacher (retired) and I understand how you are feeling. Who you work with on a day-to-day basis, and in close proximity, can make all the difference in your school year. I wish you the very best for your upcoming year!
ReplyDeleteOh Ron I feel for you. So sorry your bff's are not there at your school any longer. I know those relationships are the best. I hope you have a great class and it makes going back a little easier for you. You are a great teacher and the kids are so blessed to have you make science fun. Hope your funk lifts soon.

Good morning, Ron! I totally understand the "funk" feeling about having to get back into the routine of school, especially when close co-workers move on. I felt the same way when JoAnn Gros and Ellie Toups left EDW. It just wasn't the same without my BFF's. Hope you get out of the funk soon. Have a great day! xoxo P.S. I'm sure you already know this, but the Italian restaurant Altamura opened up in the Magnolia Mansion on the corner of Jackson Avenue and Prytania--that is a stone's throw from our condo! The menu looks fabulous! Can't wait to try it! https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3032097/Altamura-opening-menu.pdf
ReplyDeleteRonald T- Totally understand the funk you're going through! I did the same thing each year during this time. But, please, don't consider me a "lost" friendship! You are so special to me, and you are my friend for life! Hang in there. ❤️
ReplyDeleteTransition is hard...period! The close bond teachers form is so special. They "get" it. I remember when Elie changed schools, it was hard. However, she has made some wonderful new friends and still keeps in touch with her buds from her old school. She is teaching and sharing a room with a "newbie" this year, so she is now the veteran!
ReplyDeleteI can well imagine it's hard to get back into the groove at school each year. Too bad you've lost some of the people that brought joy to the days for you but hopefully there are some new friendships to be forged as the school year progresses. I hope the funk leaves soon!
ReplyDeleteAwwww. That is bad! I know it's hard when you miss the people you worked with. My husband went through that a lot when he was a firefighter. He would get moved to another station or one of his crew members would get moved. It wasn't as fun if his "bestie" wasn't there. Now that he's retired from there, he often goes to see them. Things will get better. Adjustments are never easy.
ReplyDeleteHay, we miss you! Come back soon....Bev Martin
ReplyDeleteHow sad Ron. Those good friends will be missed, but you will make some new ones. It is always difficult when people and things get changed around. it's like starting over. Love that song! The funk will disappear eventually and you will charge full speed ahead. The kids are so lucky to have such a fun and talented science teacher. Xo
