Today marks the 12th day of Christmas and also the start of the Mardi Gras season. Tonight's first Uptown parade of the season, Phunny Phorty Phellows, travels along the St. Charles streetcar route.
Phellows and revelers will board at the RTA streetcar barn, located on Willow Street, at 6:30 p.m. on Twelfth Night. The Phunny ride will begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp The streetcar, which, traditionally, is still bedecked in it’s yuletide dressings, will leave the station for a route that will take the partying Phellows to the Lee Circle on Uptown to Napoleon turnaround and then back to the barn. You can’t miss the streetcar, it’s the one with the really noisy party inside and a big sign hanging from it reading: “It’s Carnival Time!”
All this revelry is in keeping with the motto printed on a Phunny Phorty Phellows 1896 bulletin:
“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!
This year the season is so short with Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 9.
Lots of parades, parties, and celebrations. It is a fun yet hectic time on Perrier. The decorating will begin today as the colors purple, green, and gold will dominate over the next month.
Over the next month, I'll be sharing the sites and sounds of the Mardi Gras season experienced through my eyes.
Enjoy some photos from last year's Mardi Gras.
Come on in and see what I did this year.....

ReplyDeleteThat kings cake looks good. I haven't had any of that in years! When I use to work in an office, one of my co-workers, who was from LA, would bring in a kings cake every year. It was always fun to see who found the crown. Hope you have a great time during Mardi Gras!
