Here is New Orleans, we LOVE January 6th. It signals the start of the most wonderful time of the year, the Carnival season.
I must say I do have quite an addiction to king cake. I am not a sweet eater as I prefer salty snacks, but a slice of king cake every now and then during the Carnival season is such a treat.
My very favorite is plain from Manny Randazzo’s. I am not a fan of king cakes that are filled.
I also am very fond of the king cakes from Party Palace which is located in Kenner, LA but available at our local neighborhood grocer, Zara’s.
I did enjoy a slice last night to celebrate King’s Day here in NOLA.
One word: YUMMY!
Happy Carnival Season!
Laissez les bon temps rouler, y’all!
Hey Ron, I love your southern style and what a fun New Orleans tradition with this Kings cake, thanks for sharing! I'm off to follow :)
ReplyDeleteI love Mardi Gras season. When I lived in NOLA it was the BEST time of the year there. King Cake is so much fun. I got the 'baby' once at work and still have it. Silly I know, but it was fun!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
Happy New Year Ron,
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy Carnival, the cake looks like a,fun cake to enjoy. I adore my family roots in French and I also love as a designer/artist creating creole style shrine and altar style homes for my etsy.
I have to return to your site page and catch up on all that I have missed here.
Enjoy
Xx

The big box stores here have started selling King Cakes, but they are disgusting. We have a group who drives over to New Orleans and picks up the real thing. Randazzo's is a favorite.
ReplyDeleteLoving the seasonal changes you've been making to your header!
ReplyDeleteI just saw on The Chew tv show today that some companies that make the king cake are thinking about not putting the baby in the cake for fear of being sued! Can you believe that? They're worried someone will choke on it if they eat it accidentally. They should just put a warning label on the cake, don't you think? They were saying on the tv show that a king cake without the baby in it is just a cake.
ReplyDeleteHappy Post-KIng's Day! I sure would love to have some of that King's Cake with a big ol' cup of coffee in the morning!
ReplyDeleteAhhh...let them eat cake!!! Yum. And, a king cake without a baby is like cracker jacks with no prize!! Just wrong.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, Ron! Not being a big fan of King Cake, I have to say that I might not even have a piece this year. Though, if I had to recommend some of those I think are the best, I would say Randazzo's, Meche's (Lafayette), Maurice's Bakery, and our own Rob's Donuts! Happy Mardi Gras to you and J! Have a great evening! Cheers! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could have a piece of that right now!! I had my first piece of King Cake last year at a friends party...YUMMY indeed!!
ReplyDeleteSo - you are set for Carnival Season with that King Cake! Let the parties begin!
ReplyDeleteI have never had a slice of King Cake or that matter, never been to New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteI hope to in the future. Take a big bite for me. xo
Ooh that looks good! I see you have a bright new banner- looking good!
ReplyDeleteNope -- the filled ones are better! ;-)
