Happy 60th birthday to my “favorite” aunt, Sugar. Sugar is my mom’s younger sister, and she has always been there for me. I was so happy to celebrate this milestone with her this past weekend.
We celebrated at a local New Orleans institution on Friday, Galatoire’s Restaurant in the French Quarter. Galatoire’s for lunch on a Friday is one of the hardest places to dine. No reservations are accepted. Locals and tourists alike know what a great time Friday lunches are. Here’s how our day went down. J hired someone to stand in line at 9:30 AM (The restaurant does not open until 11:30 AM.) She charges $60.00 to do so. We were happy when she reported to J that we were 6th in line and would definitely getting a table for our party of 10. If you have never experienced Galatoire’s for lunch on a Friday, you must add it to your bucket list. The restaurant is loud, lively, and energy-filled. The drinks flowed like water from a broken levee (maybe not a great analogy New Orleanians).
The family treated Sugar to a terrific lunch. We had fun and took lots and lots of pics.
Lemon fish.
Drum fish.
Filet.
More pics.
Still standing, we walked to the The Carousel Bar afterwards for a few more cocktails and ran into some of our friends from Thibodaux, my hometown.
Needless to say, I was quite overserved and did not do hardly a thing on Saturday except catch up on Orange is the New Black, Season 2 (Yes! I’m addicted!).
To mark her special 60th birthday, I had Jax Frey of Art by Jax paint a custom mini Galatoire’s with a door sign stating “Happy 60th Sugar”. Sugar loved it and will be the perfect keepsake from this most special day.
Cheers to 60, y’all!
Good morning, Ron! Looks like y'all celebrated Sugar's birthday in style! Happy 60th birthday, Sugar! I'm so sorry that we didn't get to hook up again this weekend--maybe next time. Have a great day! xoxo
