For years that I have been coming to Southwest Colorado (J's dad and stepmom live in the charming town of Montrose.), I have always enjoyed my trips to Telluride. It is the most quaint town I have seen. Along our route, we pass along the wooden fence guarding the expansive acreage of the Double RL Ranch owned by my idol Ralph Lauren.
I have never seen him, but we have stopped for numerous times at the Double RL entry gates for photos. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the land is so pristine.
Today, we ate lunch in historic Telluride, and guess what? My dream finally came true. I said "hello" and shook hands with the one and only Ralph Lauren. He and his wife Ricky were shopping along Main Street. He was very cordial but did not want to take a photo. He was in cargo shorts, hiking boots, and a white shirt. I did not want to beg too much.
The embarrassing part of my meeting was that I was wearing a Lacoste shirt since all my RL polos were dirty. I have been on a whirlwind vacay and am running out of clean duds. LOL!
I am on cloud nine, and I am sure I will not wash this hand for a long time. I cannot tell you how much I admire and love Ralph Lauren. I love his style. I love his story. I still even have his interview from Oprah saved to my DVR. She visited the ranch, and I have been in awe ever since. My trip is complete.
Ralph Lauren, y'all!
Wow! Aren't you lucky?!? I love Ralph Lauren's style...that man can do no wrong!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. I've only had the chance to meet famous sporting coaches, which weren't very exciting to me (but Hubby got a kick out of it.)
ReplyDeleteOh boy I would've been thrilled to see him too! He sure has created quite an empire in the design world hasn't he! I don't know his personal story- I'll have to look for info on it. Looks like you're having a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteScratch it off your bucket list now!!!
ReplyDeleteWow...I am sure you were giddy with excitement when you met the great Laurens....I so remember that Oprah interviewed...I DVR'd it and watched it many times!...So happy that you got to meet a true icon of fashion...love his clothes and most of my wardrobe is by "Lauren"...Hey, going to Haven and bought new sandals, by "Lauren" of course....Have a great time on vacay..I so love that entire area in which we were fortunate to have visited several times....
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that you met and shook hands with your idol Ralph Lauren! I'm still chuckling that you had a Lacoste shirt on! You should have kept one of your RL polos on standby for the "just in case" chance meeting. That is probably why he wouldn't take a picture with you! ;) Anyway, enjoy the rest of your trip and am looking forward to many posts about the whirlwind trip! Have a great day! Cheers! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCongrats! That is so awesome! You should send him some Uptown Acorn swag and get him to follow the blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm dying for you Ron! That's so amazing that you met him...I love it when the universe lines up to lead you to things you've only dreamt about. Holla! I met the architect for one of his homes a few summers ago and was giddy at just that one degree of separation. Ha! Think I need to make a trip to CO. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know how much you've spent on his clothes.
ReplyDeleteOh MY GOSH!!!!!! We were just talking about you going by his ranch and how you could manage to crash in!!!! I adore Ralph Lauren, not only because his clothes are so classic and well fitting, but also his own personal self-made, hard working story!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm almost as excited as you!!!!
Dream come true! So exciting. And, the scenery is gorgeous. I am dying however over the fact you had a Lacoste shirt on. LOL
ReplyDeleteWow! I've passed the Double RL ranch too when visiting Telluride. I adore his style and story as well. Yes, I'm a life long fan! Glad you got to actually meet him. It's fun to see one's idol in normal real life activities.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting moment for you!! I loved the interview Oprah did at his ranch. His style is amazing and he is an American icon for sure! Yay for you!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
How exciting! There's nothing more exciting than to get to meet someone you've idolized forever. I'm sure you were kicking yourself for not having his shirt on too. I love his style too! What an icon. Have fun in CO. Would love to visit there someday.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh, Ron! How exciting! I'm a huge fan, too. This will certainly be a vacation you won't forget.
ReplyDeleteExciting! I love Ralph Lauren's classic and timeless style and have some of his bedding line. I love the fact that his initials are the same as my late grandmothers so when I look at the pillow in my bedroom with the "RLL" monogram, I think of her. Have fun in CO... I would get those RL shirts washed right away just in case lighting strikes twice and you run into him again.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you finally were able to meet him! I cannot imagine what that was like. He is such a legend! I would have been speechless. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a treat! Enjoy the rest of your vacay!
