This past weekend was a nice one but was not all fun & games.
On Friday evening, J & I trekked to Hammond, LA as my school participated in the annual State Science Olympiad at Southeastern University. The team qualified for State by placing 2nd in Regional competition at my Alma Mater, Nicholls State University.
We are fortunate to have friends with a “country” home in downtown Hammond, so we were lucky enough to stay at their charming abode.
I just love the muck boot filled with blooms on the front door. It is made of screen and painted.
The home is situated in historic downtown Hammond, so J & I walked to The SteaKhouse, a Hammond fave of ours. Though our friends were not in town, we shared an excellent steak dinner.
The owner and server are good friends of Mari Ann & Marie, so a photo-op it was.
On Saturday, I spent my entire day {7:00 AM-6:00 PM} with my Science Olympiad team and their parents under the majestic oaks at Friendship Circle. The team of which I am the advisor is a talented one and proved quite capable in the 23 science events during the day.
Once J & I returned to NOLA which is about an hour’s drive from Hammond, I had a craving for Mexican. We decided to stop at an Uptown fave, Taqueria Corona on Magazine Street. A pitcher of margaritas is what I needed for a restful night’s sleep.
About 15 minutes after I was home, I was fast asleep…Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Yesterday was such a beautiful day that J & I brunched at Cafe Atchafalya, an Uptown favorite of ours and many locals and tourists alike.
The bloody Mary bar is filled with just about anything imaginable that could go into the cocktail.
I also ordered two more galvanized garden troughs for the side yard so that J can plant his veggies, and I can plant my herbs. We use the larger ones in the courtyard that we used in Atlanta. Now, they house ferns and other greens. The ones in the courtyard are too big to fit along the path on the side of the house.
Congrats again to Mary Ann of classic.casual.home for winning the Apothecary Guild Diffuser.
Lovin’ weekends, y’all!
Wow, you and J had a busy weekend. I adore the door decoration on your friend's house. Love, love, love, Cafe Atchafalaya. Going to have to go to brunch there soon. Have a great day! xoxo
ReplyDeleteNo matter how great the middle schoolers are, a pitcher of margaritas is always a welcome reward after having been with them for a weekend!
ReplyDeleteI was in Hammond once, and left to go to New Orleans. I was so hungry and my "driver" wouldn't stop to let me eat because he wanted to wait till we got to N.O. so I was CRYING all the way from Hammond! So now when I think of Hammond, I always get hungry! I should have gone to the steak house.
Looks like you had a jam packed weekend of fun! The home you stayed at in Hammond looked cute. I like those galvanized containers you're using for plants and veggies etc. That's a great way to decorate your yard in a portable fashion.
ReplyDeleteYes, you were very busy! Do you need to return to the usual routine just to rest?:-) When is your school year scheduled to come to a close for this year?
ReplyDeleteI bet you are a great teacher.
ReplyDeleteI would say that you and J we're busy little bee's this weekend, but it still sounds like you had a very good and productive weekend ;-)
ReplyDeleteSmiles~
Mari
Sounds like you had a very busy weekend, but the steak dinner sounds wonderful. There is nothing like a good steak dinner. Also, I do love Mexican food and Margarita's.
ReplyDeleteMary
Sounds like a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun weekend! After the middle schoolers I bet you needed a cocktail or two! ;)
ReplyDeleteDIL and I thoroughly enjoyed the Shotgun House tour; no time to lunch or shop, as she had an event in BR that evening. And may I add...it's a REAL GOOD THING I don't know where you live....you might be missing that FABULOUS galvanized tub!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and congrats on the Science Fair!
ReplyDeleteA very busy weekend, indeed! Kudos on the Science Fair ~ great job done by all. I know I would have needed at least 1 pitcher of margaritas ~ :)
ReplyDeleteStill having technical problems here so haven't been in blog land much. Hope you have a wonderful week!
xo
Pat
The cocktails look great! You deserved them...sounds like a busy weekend!
ReplyDeleteCheers! - Shelley
Ron, this world needs more teachers like you! So dedicated to give your time. I am glad you were able to enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the students participating in the Science Olympiad. I know it had to of been a very long day for you. Looks like you had a very nice place to spend the night and enjoy a meal. I like the garden troughs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty house in Hammond. You had a busy weekend. When we lived in NOLA we loved our weekends.... so many places to visit. And my hubby is also a graduate of Nicholls State! Great idea about the containers for gardening. Thanks for sharing, Vicki in Louisville KY
ReplyDeleteAren't galvanizes troughs just about one of the best things ever invented? I'm waiting on the arrival of a large one I've ordered. I'm drilling holes in the bottom, placing casters on it and it will that will live at the roadside to house the garbage cans on trash day. I despise driving down our gorgeous country road and seeing trash cans/barrels along the roadside. Can you say OCD? Go ahead - everyone else does! ;>)
