I was so happy to receive my copy of The Southerner’s Handbook, A Guide to Living the Good Life, from Amazon recently. When I saw this title, I knew a copy had my name on it.
I am a Southerner through and through, so this handbook emphasizes what I lived with all my 45 years of life.
Compiled and written by the editors of my fave magazine Garden & Gun, this guide is a perfect addition to the Southern way of life.
From the handbook:
Whether you live below the Mason-Dixon Line or just wish you did, The Southerner’s Handbook is your guide to living the good life. The collection of more than 100 instructional and narrative essays offers a comprehensive tutorial for modern-day life in the South. From food and drink to sporting and style, home and garden to arts and culture, you’ll discover essential skills and unique insights from some of the South’s finest writers, chef’s, and craftspeople- including the secret to making the perfect biscuits, tips for betting on the Kentucky Derby, and how to whip up a proper Sazerac.
So grab a cocktail, head out to your porch, and relax. You are in for an experience as surprising and enchanting as the South itself.
The handbook is divided into six parts (and my favorite essays are below):
Food
cast-iron care
the ultimate appetizer
mind over mollusk
Style
putting pen to paper
party like a Cajun
the Southern man’s closet
Drink
the perfect bar- and why the South has so many of them

ReplyDeleteRon!!!!! I need this pronto!!!!! I am ordering tonight!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book,. Ron. I love the cover-it is rich and elegant looking. I KNOW you are a Southern boy through and through because you always end with Y'All. lol Are you SURE your name isn't BillyBob? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI ordered a copy too! I had to order it from the excerpt..."living below the Mason Dixon Line." I have insisted to my Charleston, SC born husband that I -born in Maryland- am Southern. I can't tell you how many times I must remind him that MD is below the Mason Dixon Line!! My Daddy was born in Kentucky and I have a great, great, great grandfather who was a Confederate solider.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation!
