The week started off sad for us last Sunday as one of my best friend’s mom passed away suddenly. The Lord took the oh-so sweet Gert Norris to live upstairs and watch over her family and all of us.
Rest in Peace, Mrs. Gert!
On Tuesday evening, I could not attend the wake in Thibodaux (an hour away) due to our annual Family Science Night in which I am in charge. 20 science stations manned by over 30 6th, 7th, and 8th grade “lab rats” are set up in our cafeteria. Pre-K-3rd grade students and their parents attend to take part in fun, engaging science experiments such as making oobleck, constructing paper airplanes, and building marshmallow towers.
It was a fun night had by all.
On Saturday, I started my Christmas decor. I am anxiously awaiting my live mixed garlands arriving at the end of this week.
This weekend we had some convival parlor patter with neighbors, Sarah and Paul before attending a delicious dinner at Apolline, a newish neighborhood eatery.
We brunch at our fave, Mr. B’s Bistro in the quarter while listening to jazz.
We picked up a new ornament (more later on the stylish shrimp boots) at the Historic New Orleans collection as well as my favorite Nest Holiday candles and diffusers from Sax Fifth Avenue.
We even stopped by the Westin on the river to grab a cocktail. The view is one of my favorites in the city.
Whew! What a busy week! I guess its TIS THE SEASON. Right?
The week that was, y’all!
So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother's dear friend. My oldest will be co-teaching 3 high school science classes come January!!! Fun times! You must share your secret to keeping "real" greens for the holidays fresh. I am so over the "chinese garbage" but am so afraid of the real stuff...needles shedding everywhere!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy condolences on the loss of Mrs Gert. She looks like she was a delightful lady! I so wish I had one of those drinks right now ~ the bloody mary looks really good.
ReplyDeleteI imagine those candles are incredible! I really am a candleholic...and haven't found a 12 step program...nor do I want one. I'm ok with this addiction! :)
Have a wonderful week! I know your decor is going to be stunning once again.

ReplyDeleteWell, you were sure a busy boy this week! I really love going to the kids' science fairs- yep- I am geeky like that! Can't wait to see the greens you get for decorating.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your friend's Mom passing away- I think it is even harder when it happens around the holidays- Diana
Sorry for the loss. Pray god for her.
ReplyDeleteBusy week in purchasing things.
Ron, first let me send my condolences for Mrs. Gert's passing. May she rest in peace. I love Apolline and Mr. B's. I see you had the shrimp and grits--I so could eat that right now. I'm digging that shrimp boots ornament. Looking forward to "touring" your home as you deck it out in its Christmas splendor. Have a great day! xoxo
ReplyDeleteRon, I am sorry for your loss. Your week did get a bad start! I am glad you had a Science Fair to keep your mind busy. I believe Mrs. Gert is definitely watching over you all. Hope you have a great week this week!
ReplyDeleteI always attended every single science fair our kids and grands were part of.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the passing of your friend.
Busy week like yours calls for a few days of pure rest...good for the soul, you know. :)

This sounds like a wonderful activity for students! I offer my sympathies to you at the loss of Mrs. Gert.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the loss of your friend's parent. You've been a busy person! I see the pheasant has found a new home. I'm dreaming about Christmas ideas but haven't gotten started. I'm one of those that waits until after Thanksgiving to start. I bet that was a fun science fair!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your loss. God bless Mrs Gert and her family.
