Tis the Season, a perfect Saturday {Christmas 2012}

I always look forward to J & I’s day yesterday. Annually, approximately two weeks before Christmas day, we spend a spirited day attending the PRC’s annual Holiday Home Tour, picking up a “bauble” at Adler’s(our favorite jewelry store), having a cocktail or three at some of our favorite bars, and ending the day by eating at Domenica at The Roosevelt Hotel.

The day always starts with lunch at Magazine Poboys. Quaint and close to the Garden District, the fried pickles and fried shrimp poboys are “to die for”.

J & I then head to the Holiday Home Tour sponsored annually by the Preservation Resource Center (PRC). This year’s six homes did not disappoint. I could not take pictures inside or at least I wasn’t supposed to, but in some of the homes I was allowed to take a pic or two. The homes were grand and lovely. If you have never attended, put it on your “to-do” list for next December.

I loved how some of the homes featured local bands.

Here are a few pictures I was allowed to snap.

Are you drooling?

We stopped at Commander’s Palace for a couple Bloody Mary’s. Cheers!

J & I then headed to the French Quarter/CBD. We trek annually to New Orleans favorite longtime jeweler, Adler’s, in search of one of their fine New Orleans-inspired ornaments. This year’s find is perfect for those of you who know that I adore the oyster shell. What a perfect “bauble”!

We stopped by Harrah’s to see “Miracle on Fulton Street”. I love the paddle boat made with gingerbread and candies.

We then share a cocktail or two at a couple of our favorite bars.

Swizzle Stick…Cheers! The Swizzle Stick is located in the Loew’s Hotel.

The decorations at The Roosevelt are a must-see.

The night ended with an awesome meal at Domenica.

The day was perfect, and then it was into a cab for a safe ride home.

Now, next year, I am hoping for cooler weather. With the temperature near 80 degrees, it just does not feel like the Christmas season these days.

  5. Popping in for a read from Embellishments by SLR. Nest candles caught my attention, but New Orleans captures my heart! The only thing better than a Saturday in New Orleans is a Sunday in New Orleans! It gets rather festive here in the South, especially at the holidays. Adler's is a gem, and the oyster ornament frames the NOLA picture for sure. Great blog, post, and New Orleans treasures, Ron.

  7. Oh my Ron,

I felt like I was there with you. Your photos are great. The photos inside are delightful. So glad you got the musicians and the chandy....to die for.
I love how you and J just seem to eat and drink your way around NOLA. I can just taste that fried shrimp PoBoy. I just know I shall never quench my desire for shrimp. This is where I should quote Forest Gump.

Thank you for your visit, I am glad to be back. Just had to clear my head and feet a bit.

    Love to you guys, Ginger

  8. Dear sweet Ron,

Thank you so much for your kind words tonight...I think all the stuff that's happened over the past 6 months or so (job loss mainly) have finally caught up with me. After I posted I did a few things and put everything else back in the attic so I don't have the pressure to do something with it! I actually feel a little bit better and would love one of those Bloody Mary's right about now!

Looks like you and J had a spectacular weekend....just wish I could have joined ya'll somehow!

    xoxo,
    judy

  11. My goodness! It looks like you had a great weekend! Those homes were beautiful. Wish I lived there so I could've gone too. The homes in New Orleans have such charm. It has been warm here too. Kind of ready for it to get cold again.
