One of the things I love about living in Uptown New Orleans is our proximity to shops, restaurants, and bars. The neighborhood in which I live is safe and walkable. Yesterday, J & I walked to the Magazine Street Blues Festival held at the intersection of Magazine Street and Napoleon Avenue.
The 4th annual Blues Festival is supported by and benefits COPS2, the citizens organization for police support of police officers of District 2 (our men in blue). What a great cause!
The food, music, and art are always outstanding.

With a number of food vendors, it is always hard to choose, but we settled on Woody’s Fish Tacos. We devoured our delicious shrimp & slow roasted pork tacos. Yum!

We then walked through the many art vendor booths. Local art is always featured best at these local festivals. My favorite booth was Carnival Sculpture. The huge flowers made of paper/cardboard have been a favorite of mine for a long time. They always take me back to carnival time where many parade floats don these beauts. Artist Brian Bush works wonders with his sculptures. Check out a future blog to see if I purchased a flower or two. Hint. Hint. Wink.

J & I then listened to a couple bands which we could actually hear from our front porch just 4 blocks away. This year’s line up included Marc Stone All-Star Band, Soul Rebels, The Wise Guys, and Rockin’ Doopsie & the Zydeco Twisters. Performances by New Orleans faves Pussyfooters and the 610 Stompers enthralled and engaged the tremendous crowd. New Orleans certainly offers great music and entertainment.
With the gorgeous day we were given, the crowd at this year’s festival was the biggest I’ve seen in the past four years. Cheers to local festivals!
Continuing my Christmas decoarting inside… Have a great day!
Magazine Street Blues Festival, y’all!
Post's like this make me miss New Orleans so much! I loved living there and enjoying all that this wonderful city has to offer. Love those flowers!!

What a fun, fun day, Ron. We don't have any art shows here this time of year. Anything that is held has to be indoors and it is just not the same. I LOVE those huge flowers- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhen you post blogs like this, it makes me want to live in NOLA--there is always something going on! I'm betting that one of those red flowers made its way to Perrier and will be added to your Christmas decorations! Have a great day! ;)
ReplyDeleteLucky you. Gotta love Rockin' Doopsie. Last time Aunt Gail and I saw him, we were overserved.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect way to spend the day Ron!! Wishing you and J a very Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! I still can't believe I have never made it down to New Orleans! What is wrong with me!
