My all-time favorite main dish is shrimp & grits. It does not get any better than thick grits and fresh, peeled shrimp.
J & I have used this shrimp & grits recipe found in Southern Living magazine a while ago.
The classic combo is a favorite recipe of the Southern states, and it is a fave of mine too.
I am again linking to Kelly’s Korner blog where Favorite Main Dishes will be shared. Come on over!
Garlic Shrimp & Grits
makes 4 servings
prep: 20 minutes
cook: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 lb. unpeeled, medium-size fresh shrimp, cooked
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup quick-cooking grits, uncooked
- 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Garnishes: chopped fresh chives, peeled and cooked shrimp, freshly ground black pepper
Peel shrimp, and devein, if desired.
Bring 3 cups of water, cream, butter, and salt to a boil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium, and whisk in grits. Cook, whisking constantly, 7 to 8 minutes or until mixture is smooth. Stir in 1 lb. shrimp, cheese, and garlic, and cook 1 to 2 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Garnish, if desired.

I am also a huge fan of the shrimp & grits offerings at Upperline Restaurant (Uptown) & Mr. B’s Bistro (French Quarter). I always get this fave dish at these local eateries.
Upperline
Mr. B’s Bistro
Another of my favorite main dishes has always been a good hamburger. I certainly have to share my favorite one in the entire city. The honor goes to the LPG cheeseburger at La Petite Grocery (Uptown). A fresh burger with gruyere cheese and local greens is a must-try. Mouth-watering. Yummy.
I LOVE hamburgers. I prefer a thinner burger than a thicker one.
What are your favorite main dishes?
Don’t forget to comment on my Deen Team (Yes, Paula Deen) “audition”. Thanks.
Shrimp & Grits, y’all!
I so LOVE shrimp and grits--I've never been to Upperline, but I have had Mr. B's shrimp and grits--delish! I have to agree with you on the best hamburger in the city--LPG is the bomb! Sure could eat both of those right now and those truffle fries with the house-made ketchup! Have a great day! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Yum! Your recipe and photos are making me sooo hungry. I haven't had shrimp and grits in ages.
ReplyDeleteOh- MyHero would love this...however, we would have to split the dish- I don't eat shrimp and he won't eat grits(idiot). Sounds wonderful, Ron. You can't get grits here AT ALL! Sad, huh?
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend-xo Diana
The best shrimp and grits I have ever had was at the Pink House in your beloved Savannah.
ReplyDeleteThe shrimp and grits look good but, what no bacon?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Shrimp and Grits were at Husk in Charleston. It is so good!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. Yes a food burger is also one of my favorites.
Turkey burger with tomato jam, arugula, and a little feta at Company Burger, with sweet potato fries! Dante's Kitchen has pretty good shrimp and grits, too.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious. I will have to try it soon...we love shrimp and we love grits but I have never had the two together. I came from Kelly's Korner. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Ron and thank you for visiting my blog! OH, I love shrimp and I love grits but I've never had them together! I'll have to change that.
ReplyDeleteI love good hamburgers too and one of my favorite places is called In 'n Out Burgers. Alas, there is not one where I live.
Thanks again for popping in to see me.
be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Oh I have not had good plate of shrimp and grits since I lived in Georgia. I will definitely give this recipe a try. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You and I have the same taste buds it seems. I love shrimp and grits (anything with grits for that matter) and adore a good burger and fries. Looks like you have some great eateries around you to choose from. Those dishes look amazing. I may have to try your shrimp and grits recipe from Southern Living. It doesn't look too difficult.
ReplyDeleteI love shrimp and grits as much as I love KEY LIME pie.......and you know that
