Yes! I am a shell lover, and I have created a few objects with oyster shells. Do you remember these- oyster shell wreath, oyster shell bottle stoppers, oyster shell hurricane?
Inspired by the shellicious busts I’ve seen in Paula Deen’s Savannah Style, I set out to create a bust full of various sea shells that I have collected through the years.
I have also seen these busts for sale in the past for over $1000.00. Wow!
I have had a moss covered bust gracing the courtyard for some time. This garden bust was purchased from Hazelnut when I worked there a few years ago. It sat in the courtyard with a plant in his head (hair) until recently when I transformed him into a shellicious creation. This is how he started out:
Armed with white gloss spray paint, liquid nails, and loads of oyster shells, barnacles, starfish, and many other types, I glued and glued and glued, one shell at a time. Sea fans were added to the head dress.

Voila!
Who knew that my fav Paula Deen now creates these herself as a hobby? Wow! I wish I had the space and the number and types of shells that she owns.

DeleteI am a huge Paula Deen fan too and even have that book. I didn't know that she creates those. How neat! I love how you did yours. The sea fan as part of the hat is perfect. It looks so perfect in your southern coastal home too.

Ron, Your..Mi “shell” angelo is fabulous, and he's perfect in pride of place at the top of the stairs. I'm impressed! I saw the ones in Paula's new house on HGTV. I wish I could have gotten a closer look at them. Love the sea fan head dress on yours. How long did it take you to decorate Mi "shell" angelo? It looks very labor intensive.

Babs- it took about 7 days. Then when I went to pick it up, it was front heavy and crashed into my lap. I had to replace and reglue many shells. Thanks:)
DeleteWow, Ron, that's awesome! I saw Paula on HGTV telling Nancy O'Dell how she added all of the shells to the bust that they featured in her home! You did an amazing job...that takes a lot of patience!
