Who else is ready for the Summer Olympics? I love the summer games. Swimming, diving, gymnastics! I love them all. I am sure I’ll be focused on the television quite a bit over the next two weeks.
In the spirit of my love of the Olympic team, I created a “wreath” to display on the front porch for the next couple weeks. In 2000, I created the same wreath for a client of mine, and recently I set out to create one for my home.
Did you know…
- The Olympic rings are five interlocking rings that stand for the five original continents, (Africa, America, Asia, Australia, and Europe) and athletes from around the world.
- The colors of the rings are blue, yellow, black, green, and red. They were chosen because at least one of these colors is found on the flag of every nation.
Olympic Rings wreath materials include:
- 5 equal size grapevine wreaths
- 5 cans of spray paint- red, blue, green, yellow, and black
- floral wire
- flags
- patriotic ribbon
- letters: “U”, “S”, “A”
The construction is pretty simple:
- Place the rings in order (blue, black, & red on top row; yellow & green on the bottom row)
- Use floral wire to attach each together.
- Add any embellishments that you desire (ribbon, flags, stars, letters, etc.)
I chose to keep my creation simple and let the rings speak for themselves.
What is your favorite Summer Olympic sport? Will you be watching?

Love the wreath idea--would never have thought of this! I'm so pumped up about the Olympics; in fact, tomorrow night we are going to my BFF Cyd's house in Berwick to watch the opening ceremonies! I have to say that gymnastics and swimming are probably my favorite events, but I do watch most of them! Geaux, USA! ;)
ReplyDeleteSwimming! Those cute boys with those broad shoulders, oh my! I like gymnastics too, but the leotard is not nearly as attractive as the swim trunks! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd diving? Lol.
DeleteYou made me one in 2000 using ribbon wrapped around styrofoam rings.....remember.....
ReplyDeleteI remember, Jeannie!!!
DeleteLove this! I might just have to make one for myself, too! :) GO USA!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! Great to see you getting into the spirit of the Olympics.
ReplyDeleteWe are really looking forward to it at our place too. The timing is going to be a pain for us here in Australia but we should be able to see the night-time events.
Thanks for dropping by and visiting my Christmas blog. It's great to meet you and I look forward to following your blog. If you have a minute to spare please pop by and visit me at my main blog (Natasha in Oz) some time!
Best wishes,

Very, very, very cool idea. Now...you are NOT going to be sitting out front in your Speedo rooting for the USA teams are you? xo Diana
