Burlap, not just for potato sacks anymore!

Burlap, once used for coffee and grain sacks, is now used for many beautiful home accents and accessories. I have a great infatuation for the casualness of the fabric mixed ever so slightly with more formal finds. In my Southern coastal decor, the aged look of the burlap fabric fits perfectly with the overall decor. In my home, I have collected a number of pieces using burlap fabric.

Do you use burlap? If so, how?

Who would have thought that burlap would be so chic and in style?

  1. It is amazing, isn't it, how burlap has risen to a sort of "fame"? I grew up on a farm and I hated working with it because it was so flipping itchy...and no one would ever imagine that it would be used for decorative purposes...although my father did fashion "curtains" with it for the barn windows to keep the sun from beating onto the cows. lol Too much information?

I love what you have done. Your home is warm and wonderful...and I don't mean FL HOT- I mean cozy warm- xo Diana

  2. I'm with you on this one, Ron. Who would have thought that a fabric, like burlap, which was once what monks and peasants wore as a sign of their poverty, would find its way into the world of fashion and chicness?!!!! I adore that monogrammed shower curtain. Great blog today, as usual! ;)

  3. You know I'm loving that burlap coffee sack chair and monogrammed shower curtain! I agree with you about the swivel PB chair but the price point is outrageous...but I'm seriously considering it.

Hope you are staying cool in this oppressive heat...we are getting some afternoon storms but not enough for my dry lawn.

Thanks for the good wishes for tomorrow's hearing...I'm hoping to share the whole sordid story soon..

    xoxo,
    Judy

  5. I'm a fan of burlap. Love the look! Did you see the burlap pillows at World Market? One is a US flag and the other the Union Jack. They are great!

  6. Ron, In the world of fashion and decor, it's interesting what becomes trendy. I have to say that I have a love/hate feeling about burlap...love the look of it and it's versatility, but I hate the feel and smell of it. I know, I'm weird. However, I do have a bench in my entry that I covered the seat with the plain side of a burlap sack, and then made a pillow with the front.
So, I do have a little burlap, and those burlap lamp shades really appeal to me.
Hugs and have a great weekend,
    Babs
