I’m back!
Ever since I was born, Grand Isle has been the place where my family “vacationed” many days during the spring and summer months.
Yes! Below is Monique and I circa 1974(and of course I carried the flowered raft…LOL!).
Surrounded by family, friends, and strangers alike, Grand Isle, Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island, is the perfect weekend get-away. Located only two hours south of New Orleans on Louisiana’s coast, Grand Isle is a perfect destination.
Via golf cart or a short walk across the street, the beach means so much to many of us native South Louisianans. Of course, Grand Isle has weathered its share of storms and hurricanes throughout its history, but the island always comes back stronger. The recent BP oil spill certainly did not deter the locals and vacationers alike. The resilience of its good people makes Grand Isle even more special.
Today, the Grand Isle beach is more alive and more beautiful than ever.
From coffee talk to long walks, from visiting with passersby to enjoying cocktails, from sunning to gossiping with good friends, Grand Isle is by far one of the most special spots in my life. Great memories, good friends, and ample sun have always been important in my own life. Being able to kick back and relax makes it all better.
Here are some snapshots of my Memorial Day weekend visit to Grand Isle:
Welcome to Grand Isle…
Kajun Kastle…
Coffee tawwwwk…
Our “territory” on the beach at the water tower…
Friends, family, & the beach….
Cocktail time…(see my post tomorrow for a great cocktail, Dave’s Sweet Summer Surprise, pictured below in the lovely mosaic urn)
Even the kiddos had non-alcoholic frozen Gatorade shots…
Another great Memorial Day Weekend in the books. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteIt was another fun-filled weekend on G.I. with family and friends. I call it making memories. Wish Colette and the boys and Monique could have been with us. Something to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteI made a new friend...Dave Glover, what a character. Gotta love him. Sure knows how to party.

Looks like a great place to make memories, Ron!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of our childhood summers spent seaside in Cape May NJ.... the oldest resort spot on the east coast.
Tons of Victorian homes to rent.
So pretty if you have never been, you should try to go some day!

ReplyDeleteGrand Isle makes me think of "The Awakening." A sad story, but it doesn't look like a sad place. Looks great.
