A few years ago I purchased two original paintings by local artist, Martin Welch. I just love the colors and organic nature of his works of art. I oooooh & aaaaaah every time I see his artwork displayed at local galleries or shoppes along Royal Street.
Welch sold everything he owned at age 44 and studied painting. Many years later, his red, gold, and turquoise crustacean paintings are sought after by collectors all over the South and the United States.
Known for his crab, shrimp, fish, and oyster paintings, Welch is also keen on painting original, iconic New Orleans art pieces on media such as canvas or wood and recycled items.
Prices for his art pieces range from $175.00 for a 6 x 12” piece to $5200.00 for a 48 x 72” piece.
