As my readers know, my mom is affectionately called Honey and her sister, my Aunt, is called Sugar aka Sugah.
Prior to Christmas I spotted this tile in a new shop on Magazine, Linens and Decor near Orient Express. I thought the tile trivet was perfect to gift to my Sugah. She loves to work in the kitchen, so a trivet tile is just right for her. The painted sugarcane even makes it more Southern and special.
The artist who I actually met while I was in the shop is Leilan LaFleur. She had several amazing art pieces in the shop.
You also know that I am not easily embarrassed, so I introduced myself and asked her to paint a tile for Honey. She did so, and it turned out beautifully.
I encourage you to check out more of Leilan’s work at www.leroygray.com. I am even awaiting a custom tile from her of a place you’ll all recognize.
From Leilan…
What I Love about New Orleans….
The skinny but long houses are often as colorful as the characters that live within them. All days are acceptably treated as Fridays and anything can become a celebration. We don’t tap our fingertips and tippy toes to the beats we hear, the city dances within our souls. And most importantly, not only have I found comfort in this place I call home, but have found comfort in myself because of it.
This is soooo true. I could not have said it better.
Please check out Leilan’s facebook page for more photos of her art: click HERE.
Honey & Shuga, y’all!

These are so neat! Thanks for always being a great source of "Southern" finds. By the way, that entire store looks awesome. And it is right next to Orient Expressed! Speaking of... I wish you would do another post on this store. I have always loved the catalog for their children's clothing and from pictures I have seen, their home accessories look good, too. So go check it out for us Ron! and take lots of pictures!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Keep up the outstanding work - you are a great inspiration!
