My latest collection obsession has been the Mini Art of iconic NOLA places and things by local artist, Jax Frey.
I already own several of her pieces. At only $40.00 a piece, the mini art by Jax are the perfect birthday or anniversary gift. I gave Clancy’s to J on his birthday as we dined there, and it is one of his favorites in the city. Each serve as a great way to keep a memory alive for years.
Jax Frey is an artist, workshop leader, a life coach and the author of The One Life Plan who lives on the Northshore of New Orleans in Covington, LA.
Jax's mini line of art - Little Views - depicts images and icons of New Orleans and Louisiana life on 4 x 4" canvas. Little Views have been known to be found simply everywhere these days - from Norway to Puerto Rico! Over 10,000 minis have been sold worldwide.
My collection includes several of J & I’s local faves:
Commander’s Palace
Upperline Restaurant
La Petite Grocery
Galatoire’s
I have these on the wall in the kitchen near my refrigerator.
I am so happy that Jax has offered one of her art minis to one of my readers/followers.
One 4 x 4” art mini of the iconic favorite Cafe du Monde will be given away to one entrant in a couple weeks.
If you’ve ever visited New Orleans, then I am certain you would LOVE to own an original “Little Views” art mini of the iconic fave. You can jump start your own collection. If you have not been to New Orleans, the mini art will serve as a symbol of the historic city.
The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Cafe is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It closes only on Christmas Day and on the day an occasional Hurricane passes too close to New Orleans.
The Original Cafe Du Monde is a traditional coffee shop. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French -style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar.

ReplyDeleteHi Ron, love her artwork........so ebullient and collorful! If I had to choose, would say the alligator and the voodoo doll are 2 of my favorites. I bought a voodoo doll years ago in NOLA and I used to jokingly pull it out of my desk drawer and threaten to use it when someone in the snake pit (the fond name for where I worked) was being particularly evil. I liked her on FB and of course I have liked you, and I looked at her website. And you come to my email every day, so hope that it good. Also, I dont know what my profile is, so I will just select anonymous...........Dotti

I suppose if I was forced to pick one and only one, I suppose it would have to be her rendition of Oak Alley. Or maybe it's the one of Tiger Stadium. No, it would have to be Gambino's. Oh, the pressure!

ReplyDeleteOne more chance--hope I'm not too late!
ReplyDeleteEntering on a wing and a prayer ;0) I generally don't enter contests as for some reason this area isn't my strength (I don't win!). But, I'm from Nola, left in '90 due to my job and now go back maybe 4 times a year for a visit (driving 8-1/2 hours to do so). As my age, those driving trips are not gonna happen much longer so I thought...how nice it would be to have a piece of home with me all the time...
ReplyDeleteBack for one more chance! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the texture in the Cafe Du Monde painting. But, the street car Desire and Mr. Bingle are great. I travel to New Orleans from Delaware about every 4 months. I go up to Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi MS to see my granddaughter. My son is a Meteorology instructor at the base. My heart belongs to New Orleans!
