CLAMoring for the Clam Shell

Those of you who keep up with my blog know I like to PINTEREST occasionally. The art of pinning and creating boards is somewhat addicting.

A couple years ago, I purchased a large concrete clam shell from a local nursery/gift shop just knowing I would use it for something good. The clam shell soon became a seasonal staple as I filled it with acorns in the Fall, pomegranates at Christmas time, beads & crowns at Mardi Gras, eggs at Easter, and of course treasured seashells during the spring and summer months. I wish I had pictures of the clam shell at each season---note to self!

Today, the large clam shell sits on my parlor mantle filled with some of my favorite shells collected from various beaches and boutiques around the South. The sea fan was recently purchased at one of my new Magazine Street favs, A.K.A. Stella Gray. I love adding to my vast collection of shells. I will retire to the coast. I will retire to the coast. I will retire to the coast. If I keep saying it, it will come true!

My search on pinterest took me in search of how other pinterest users utilize this large mollusk. Here are some great pics and uses of the large clam shell:

Aren’t the uses amazing? How do you use your clam shell?
Fill the clam and carry on, y’all!

  1. I don't have a clam shell, but if I ever get one, these are great ideas! I especially love the one used as an "ice bucket" to chill the champagne. :)

  2. Me too, Ginger! I will have to get one big enough to chill my champagne or Pinot Grigio.

  5. Ron, My dad gave me a giant clam shell he has had in his yard for over 30 years. The only problem is that he lives in Florida and we live in Virginia. I looked into shipping but the thing weighs over 80 pounds and has to be crated. I can't wait to claim my shell. Your vignettes are beautiful!

  6. Sherry- The drive to Florida to pick it up would certainly be worth it. I can't wait to see it. Thanks for stopping by. xoxoxo, Ron

  7. Very interesting uses! I also thought the use as a wine chiller was really the coolest!
